Islamic Legal Theory, Secularism and Religious Freedom : Is Modern Religious Freedom Sufficient for the Shari’a ’Purpose’ [Maqsid] of ’Preserving Religion’ ?
Le vendredi le 6 novembre

UQÀM
Salle W 5215 (5e étage du pavillon Thérèse-Casgrain)
Résumé : In this paper I look at the theory of the "purposes/objectives of shari’a" which is often viewed as a panacea for modern reformers and ask what would be required for "modern" religious freedom (secular, liberal, Western conceptions of religious freedom) to fulfill the basic "shari’a objective" of preserving religion.
